XO: The New Girl Group Redefining Teen Pop Music
“Don’t think ‘bout him, turn it up, it's your favorite song.” — XO
About XO
UK-based girl group XO is tapping into early 2000s nostalgia while carving out their own lane in modern teen pop. Comprised of Reanna Sujeewon, Shali Bordoni, Zoe Miller, Emmy Statham, and Summer Askew.
Signed under Polydor Records, they debuted in 2019 with their song “Lovesick.” The song is a fun and upbeat teen-pop hit that talks about being in love with someone for the first time. The track captures the rush of a first crush, especially the moment after the first kiss when feelings start to become real.
This is a great song to debut with because it brings back the era of teen pop songs from the early 2000s. Their image combines the unique individuality of the Spice Girls with the sharper edge and confidence of Danity Kane.
In an interview with The Boar, the group shared that they each responded to a leaflet inviting young women to audition for a girl band by submitting a self-tape. Out of 140 applicants, only five were selected.
The group is signed to Polydor Records, a UK label responsible for producing global acts, including Mabel, Lana Del Rey, and Ellie Goulding, among others.
Their Musical Style
While teen pop continues to thrive through solo acts like Olivia Rodrigo and Kylie Cantrall, the girl group space has remained relatively quiet in recent years, something that XO seems intent on changing.
Their latest single, “Hotline” is a girl power anthem about telling young women to remember who they are and that they don’t need a boy to define their worth. If you needed a reminder then call the ”Hotgirl Hotline”.
The track is chant heavy, and its hook is the kind of earworm that will get stuck in your head after one listen. Their debut EP Fashionably Late was released in November 2025 and the group is gearing up to release their next EP Need To Know in October 2026.
Their sound would be described as bubblegum pop. It kind of resembles the girl group Dream but with an edgier sound and a more defined message. This makes them feel more current. The group is a bridge between the early 2000s vibe while appealing to a younger audience who are just now discovering the sound.
Why XO Matters
XO shows true potential as a rising pop act. While their chemistry and performance quality stand out, their vocal blend still feels like a work in progress. As they continue to refine their sound, stronger harmonies will be key at establishing their musical identity.
By blending nostalgic bubblegum pop with modern, empowerment-driven messaging, XO is reshaping what teen pop looks and sounds like for a new generation.
If XO continues to sharpen their sound and strengthen their harmonies, they could become one of the defining girl groups of a new pop era.
